You've designed an edge-AI tile and want it fabricated. Compare the fixed cost of the routes — a TinyTapeout tile, a full open-PDK MPW slot, a 28nm mask set, a 3nm mask set — and find the economical path, and how many times cheaper it is than the leading edge.

02Model

Design is only half of getting a chip; the other half is economics, and it is why most people never make one. The fixed cost to enter a node — the mask set — explodes as you go leading-edge: roughly a hundred thousand dollars at 180nm, over fifteen million at 5nm, tens of millions at 3nm. That is what makes the leading edge esoteric: only a few organizations can even afford a tape-out. Shared shuttles invert this: a TinyTapeout tile splits one wafer run across many designers, so an individual gets real silicon for a few hundred dollars. The node is mature (130/180nm) — but it is a real chip you can hold, and that access is what diffuses the skill.
