Capstone: a theory of intelligence as matching

Collapse the whole course into a single function, and make it reproduce every answer you earned.

01Challenge

Write Γ once. Use it on an antenna, a digital wall, a power supply, and a gearbox — and get four right answers.

02Model

Here is the claim the course has been assembling. A wave meets a boundary. Whatever does not match comes back — as a burned cable, as capacity you never reach, as heat you paid for, as a contact that chatters, as surprise. Those are not analogies stacked on each other; they are one piece of geometry wearing different physics, and you can check that by running the same three lines of code against all of them. What is left over is a definition worth arguing with: getting intelligent is reshaping the interface until the reflection vanishes. Argue with it — that is the point of a capstone.

03Guided practice

1. One function. Γ = (Z − Z0*)/(Z + Z0). For a real reference this is the ordinary reflection coefficient; the conjugate makes it still vanish at a match when the reference is complex. 2. Four boundaries. The 1928 antenna; a virtual wall's passivity limit; a source and its conjugate; a gearbox and its load. 3. Four answers you already know. Each one reproduces the number you measured in its own module — from the same function, with nothing changed but what you hand it.
